Change to out-of-pocket cap to proceed
The Obama administration announced it will proceed with a planned change to out-of-pocket cap calculations. The out-of-pocket cost for individuals enrolled in family plans would be capped at the individual limit of $6,850 per year, instead of the family limit.
Since the family limit is normally double the individual limit, this is great news for those families that have chronic health issues which have them hit their yearly limit. Those consumers will absolutely save next year on their out-of-pocket cost. However, this is another example of shifting costs to the insurance companies so expect premiums to rise to offset this change….I would expect some companies to raise premiums significantly.
The best defense is to shop and to be flexible with your choices. Expect many changes next year. We are starting to see and feel the real effects of Obamacare. Stay tuned!
